Classic Vs Contemporary Kitchens

Posted by Hayley Gilbert Friday, 12th April 2019

Kitchen trends may come and go – think shabby chic, 50s retro and the current vibe for all things industrial for instance – but there are two styles that will always endure; and that’s classic and contemporary design. When planning for a new kitchen, it’s one of the first things to consider as it will have a huge impact on each and every element, from which appliances to choose - a statement Rangemaster range cooker in ivory, black or slate perhaps for a traditional look or the sleek built-in collection for a modern finish – to the worksurfaces, sink, tap, tiles and flooring.

Mothering Sunday

Posted by Gill Bland Thursday, 28th March 2019

With mothering sunday around the corner I was wondering about what the best thing was to make. Should it be something decadent that I’d want to eat myself or give to my mother, or should it be something tasty but easy that my husband could help my son make for me? I mean, it seems wrong to be ‘slaving away at the stove’ for my own mothering sunday bake, but then I love baking so actually having the time to make something is a treat.

Inspirational ideas for neutral kitchen schemes

Posted by Hayley Gilbert Tuesday, 19th February 2019

Kitchen trends may come and go. For instance, right now the latest cabinetry comes in all shades of green – but while colour, texture and finish can add instant impact and an eye-catching look, for many of us, a neutral kitchen scheme is a lot easier to live with. Cool and calming, a natural décor is extremely easy on the eye. There’s nothing that jars as you enter the room and it creates an easy, ergonomic feel that flows effortlessly, whether you prefer a classic or contemporary style. There are other benefits too. With a neutral kitchen scheme, it’s easy and inexpensive to jazz things up with a few carefully selected accessories dotted around the room. All you need is to freshen things up with some new textiles – think brightly coloured or patterned oven gloves and tea towels – a new toaster and kettle, some artwork on the walls or a few potted herbs and succulents. The other great thing about a natural interior is that is appeals more to prospective buyers if you decide to sell up in years to come.

2019 KITCHEN TRENDS

Looking ahead to 2019, we asked Daniele Brutto and Kim Vanopstal of Hub Kitchens (www.hubkitchens.com) to give us their trend and design predictions for the coming year. Christmas Shortbread Sharing Tree

Posted by Gill Bland Friday, 7th December 2018

At Christmas you may have people popping round unannounced and needing sugary sustenance, you may have the whole family over for extended periods and wanting to graze on sweet treats, or you may just be fed up of dried fruit and wanting something different. This stack of festive shortbread is great for sharing but also keeps incredibly well and looks good in the meantime if you don’t get around to using it straight away.

S’Mores (aka Chocolate & Marshmallow) Pie

Posted by Gill Bland Tuesday, 30th October 2018

This pie is a friend-making pie. It is ideal for the darkened setting of a bonfire night party where you can not worry about politeness and shovel it in with a spoon or your fingers, giving you a sugary hit to keep you warm through the festivities. It is gooey and chocolatey and you will end up with laughing at each other’s choolcatey moustaches and the stringy bits of marshmallow getting stuck in your hair. It’s also VERY dietary-requirement friendly as it is almost accidentally vegan, dairy and gluten free.

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 22nd October 2018

It’s national Curry Week from 22-28th October and so it is that I bring you an entirely un-authentic but utterly warming and tasty cry version of a roast dinner. Curry AND roast dinner, eh? Who said you couldn’t have your cake and eat it? Throw your favourite spices at this recipe and treat it a bit like pulled pork. Serve with turmeric roasties (below) or salad, wraps, pickle and  yoghurt or dhal (eg. like this).

KEEPING COOL IN THE KITCHEN

Posted by Hayley Gilbert Tuesday, 10th July 2018

Whilst the recent heatwave has been a welcome change from the usual rainy British summer, it’s become somewhat challenging knowing how best to keep cool. Some have invested in high-tech fans for sounder sleeping during the still nights while others have been stocking up on ice-lollies and cold drinks for the family. The weather has been truly wonderful, which is why Rangemaster’s cool new refrigeration range has come at just the right time!
